In today’s hyper-connected world, victimhood has become a viral currency. Scroll through any platform and you’ll see endless posts: “Everyone is against us,” “Life keeps knocking us down,” or the classic “Why does this always happen to us?” The trend is clear; people broadcasting their victim status for likes, sympathy, and validation. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: victim mentality isn’t just widespread; it’s self-sabotaging.

Isn’t it funny how victims and those with victim mentality only tell half of the story? There’s always two sides to every story, and victims conveniently leave out the details that eliminate their victimhood. They highlight the unfair blow while skipping the choices that led them there...the ignored warnings, the repeated patterns, the easy outs they didn’t take.

This mindset runs rampant in society because it’s easier. Blaming bosses, exes, the economy, or “the system” feels comforting. It shifts responsibility outward. But reality doesn’t care about our narrative.

As Top Gun so bluntly put it: “The Defense Department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid.”

Harsh? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely. Those pilots didn’t die from some grand conspiracy; they made decisions that ignored training, protocol, and common sense. The same principle applies to our everyday lives. We are where we are today because of our decisions and no one else’s.

Most likely, deep down, we know exactly what we did wrong. We’re just not admitting the truth: our choices created the position we’re in. We are not victims. We are a result of our decisions. Case closed.

Breaking free starts with radical ownership. Stop posting the half-story. Let’s audit our choices honestly. Own the mistakes, learn the lessons, and take the next right action. The world respects builders, not blamers. Ditch the victim script, our future selves will thank us.
